Anne-James Chaton

Anne-James Chaton (1970) published several collections at Al Dante editions and joined the German label Raster-Not-on in 2011 with Events 09 and Decade, published in 2012. In 2016, he publishes She looks to pass people at Editions Verticales and receives the Charles Vidrac Prize from the Société des Gens de Lettres. His poetic and sonorous writing has developed in collaboration with other artists from different scenes, from rock to electronic music, from theater to dance. He has worked with the Dutch band The Ex and has released two albums, The Journalist (2008) and Transfer (2013), with The Ex’s English guitarist Andy Moor. He collaborated on the albums Unitxt (2008) and Univrs (2011) by the German artist Carsten Nicolaï aka Alva Noto. In January 2009, he created the trio Décade, with Andy Moor and Alva Noto. He also created the Black Monodie pieces, with Philippe Menard, for Les Subjects à Vif of the 64th edition of the Avignon Festival, and Le cas Gage, or the adventures of Phineas in America with the choreographer Sylvain Prunenec, a play created for the occasion of the 2013 edition of the Uzès Danse festival in Uzès. In 2015 he created the piece HERETICS with Andy Moor and Thurston Moore, guitarist and singer of the American group Sonic Youth. In 2016 he created the ICÔNES pieces, a quartet composed with the performer Phia Ménard, the choreographer François Chaignaud and the singer Nosfell. His plastic works, drawn from his writing materials, have been the subject of numerous individual and collective exhibitions in France (Galerie Porte Avion Marseille, Galerie RDV, Nantes, Museum of Modern Art of the City of Saint Etienne; of Contemporary Art The Kunsthalle in Mulhouse, ...) and Abroad (Unicredit Pavilion in Bucharest, Romania, La Panera Art Center in Lleida, Spain, Ex Magazzini di San Cassian, Collateral Events - 55th Venice Biennial, Italy, ...). He gives many readings in France and abroad.
